Modding Tips

• 95% of all game mods for The Sims 2 go into the Downloads folder that is located within C:\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder
• The game can still recognize mods even if they are buried within folders within folders, so you can use folders to keep things organized for when you decide you need to remove mods later.
• Mods work by load order. So if a mod that modifies coffee is in folder A and another coffee mod is in folder B, folder B’s mod will be the one that is used. So if you want mods to load last name the folder something like “zzzFoldername” or to load first “!foldername.”
• I was told a long time ago to keep mods organized by mod creator and I like it and use it so I’m also going to suggest it.
• Any modder worth their salt will tell you to get Sims2HCDU and I agree. This wonderful little program can help detect conflicts between mods that could cause serious errors and even crashing.
• Another nifty program to help keep you game mods in check is Sims2pack Clean Installer. Not only does it replace the functions of the built in Sims2Pack Installer, but it can also be used to enable or disable mods without deleting them.
